5 Life-Saving Buys no Parenting Books Tell you About
As you must have realised by now, there is no dearth of pregnancy and parenting related guidance in the world. There are hundreds of books and websites that will tell you everything you need to know and more. This is especially true of, ready to use, 'must-buy' lists, which don't separate the essential from the whimsical.
As I have discovered with my little one though, in addition to all the essentials, the 5 things below will be real survival tools, helping you have happier days and nights with your baby, without trying to kill each other!!
1. A set of 3 plastic dustbins (with lid) in different colors
You read it right! This simple sounding, but fantastic life hack, is an effective laundry sorting and waste management system!! Get three new dustbins with lids (the kind you can open with a foot lever), and you are all set to sort your clothes with pee, from those with poop, and can use the third one, with a bin liner, to dispose off nappy liners or diapers/ wipes. The credit for this amazingly simple and effective idea goes to my mum and I hope she takes a bow as she reads this!
2. A bath tub that lets you bathe your newborn alone
This is a life-saver! Newborns can be incredibly fiddly and it is very difficult for a single person to bathe them alone. My solution for this is the Newborn to Toddler tub from First Years http://thefirstyears.com/ products/sure-comfort-deluxe- newborn-toddler-tub-sling-pink .
I have used this from the time my baby was a few weeks old and have found it to be safe, convenient, easy to use and clean, and very very useful. My baby loves this tub so much that it goes with us everywhere in our car boot on all our travels! You can easily buy this on Amazon in India here http://www.amazon.in/First- Years-Newborn-Toddler- Multicolor/dp/B000067EH7
3. A nice stroller mobile
In the first weeks of her life, my daughter was incredibly allergic to being made to lie down in her stroller. In fact she was mostly in my lap with me pushing the stroller - double the fun. Enter the Tiny Love take along princess mobile and voila! We had a solution!! Check this fantastic mobile out here
This is now a permanent fixture of my daughter's stroller and we don't go anywhere without it. Fantastic build quality, lovely soothing music, and the ability to captivate your baby for a long time make this absolutely the best mobile available at this price point.
4. A cot mobile + projector
While a good cot is on every, 'must-buy' baby things' list you'll read, personally, I think a good cot mobile is even more important! It is the perfect way to engage your baby, encouraging, 'me-time' from a very young age, and giving you some much-needed hands free time.
After a lot of research, we bought the Magical Night 3-in-1 mobile from Tiny Love. Check it out here http://www.tinylove.com/en/ mobiles-soothers-crib-toys/ magical-night
This mobile has been a life saver for us - I can't explain in words how much it engages and excites our daughter, right from when she was 2 months old. Solid build quality, fantastic colors and music, and a price that does not burn your pocket - need I say more!!! Buy this without thinking twice and you'll thank your decision everyday as you see your baby playing with this for hours! Well nobody tells you about this, but a good quality, bright cloth book for your baby can actually serve as a book, a toy, a teether, and a babysitter, all rolled into one. And they are incredibly easy to keep clean as well! There are many choices in the market, but my favourites have to be the ones by Roger Priddy! They are fantastic! I chose the Fuzzy Bee and friends for my daughter right from the time she was able to grip things at about 2 months and haven't been disappointed! Check the book out here
